Tangerine
Tangerine
Appearance
Tangerines are a type of citrus fruit that are smaller and easier to peel than oranges. They are orange to reddish-orange in color, with a thin, loose peel that’s easy to separate. They are slightly flattened at the ends and have a pebbly skin with no deep grooves.
Taste
Tangerines are sweeter and stronger than oranges, with less sourness.
Nutrition
The vitamin C in tangerines helps prevent colds, contributes to healing wounds and forming scar tissue, promoting iron absorption. Tangerine essential oil has antimicrobial properties that prevent wounds from becoming infected and protect them from viruses, fungi and bacterial infections. It also provides nutrients and minerals such as potassium, which reduces blood pressure.
Health Benefits
This fruit may be associated with the reduction of total cholesterol (LDL)
Uses
Tangerines are often eaten by hand, but can also be used in salads, desserts, and main dishes. The peel can be used fresh or dried as a spice or zest for baking and drinks.
